This commercial, made primarily to air on TV in Canada, shows as much of the reality of sealing as we can show on Canadian TV. It makes several points about the commercial seal 'hunt,' including the fact that the sealers are not Inuit or desperately poor. They have money to spare and do spend it on entertainment. It also makes the point of how undervalued the seal pup's life is. Sealers get only about CAN$5 - CAN$55 per seal pelt, and this is split between the captain and the sealing crew (usually 50-50) and among sealing crew members.
We also have a version with 'sound effects' during the 'skinning' scene. Click here to watch this one.
