China's trade policies have a profound effect on wildlife populations around the world. As a global leader in trade and commerce, China's government can choose to help in the protection of wildlife or it can choose to decimate and encourage the slaughter of wildlife. I sincerely hope that the government of China will join its allies and friends, including Russia, the European Union, India, and the United States, in protecting seals and discouraging massacres of seals by Canada and Namibia. As a caring person who recognizes that seals are sentient beings, capable of feeling fear, pain, happiness, and love, I urge you to ban seal product imports into China. Please also consider that seals, as apex predators, are essential in the web of ocean life. Reducing the number of seals will not increase the fish populations. Indeed, it may have the opposite effect. Please make a strong statement to the world that China cares about wildlife. Please ban seal product imports. Thank you.
